IN4.1 – Introduction

This module consists of 6 sections. Each one should take about an hour to complete.

To complete this module, you will need a journal or a pad of paper and a pen to write down your own reflections.

What is this module about?

An exploration and practice of how to use your personal authority to influence change

Learning Outcomes

This section will explore how to use your personal authority to influence change and methods to put it into practice.

When you have completed this module you will:

  • Be familiar with the Gibbs’ Reflective Cycle and have used its structure to keep reflective notes in your learning journal
  • Experimented in real life situations with your personal authority to influence and manage change
  • Developed skills in self-confidence; political and emotional intelligence; assertiveness; and managing change
  • Evaluated your personal authority and personal power by recording examples of your experiments of using these behaviours in your learning journal

Author

Pippa Gough MA, MSc, PGCE(A), PGDip, RN, RM, HV, FQNI, FRSA

Pippa is an experienced executive coach and organisational and personal development consultant in both the public and voluntary sectors at local and national levels. She has a background in nursing, midwifery, health visiting and management. She was previously Director of the RCN Policy Unit and thereafter Senior Fellow at the King’s Fund in both the Leadership Development and Policy Directorates.

Pippa is a qualified executive coach, an accredited MBTI practitioner, a Fellow of the Queen’s Nursing Institute and Fellow of the Royal Society of Art. She is the author and editor of a number of books on nursing and policy and numerous articles and other publications on leadership, change, development and health workforce.

In her spare time Pippa is a writer of fiction and has poems and short stories published in anthologies.
